What does a Motor Mechanic do? 

A motor mechanic is a skilled tradesperson responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, such as cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Motor mechanics use a variety of tools and diagnostic equipment to inspect, test, and repair various systems and components within a vehicle, including engines, transmissions, suspension systems, electrical systems, and more.

Who should become a Motor Mechanic?

A career as a motor mechanic can be perfect for individuals who are passionate about vehicles with a strong desire to work with their hands. By pursuing education and training in the automotive field, individuals can gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed and achieve their goals within the automotive industry.

What is the average salary?

Job outcomes for mechanics are highly rewarding as they offer competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities within the automotive industry. Graduates of the motor mechanic pathway at Alliance College can expect an hourly rate range of $20 to $40 as a motor mechanic, while senior motor mechanics can earn up to $50 per hour. In addition, mechanics who work in independent repair shops often enjoy the independence and flexibility that comes with running their own business.

What qualifications do I need to become a Motor Mechanic? 

Individuals interested in pursuing a career as a motor mechanic are required to pursue some level of education or training in the automotive field such as a vocational or trade school program, which focuses on hands-on training and practical application of automotive repair techniques.

AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology

AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis

AUR50216 Diploma of Automotive Technology

What will I learn? 

It is important for aspiring motor mechanics to gain a solid foundation in basic automotive repair and maintenance, as well as a strong understanding of computer systems, electronics, and diagnostic equipment. In addition, they should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure.

What are the entry requirements for joining the courses? 

Entry requirements for studying Automotive at Alliance College include a minimum age of 18 years, completion of Year 10 or equivalent; and a satisfactory level of English proficiency.

Next intake dates for the Automotive courses are in April, July and October 2023.
