Course Overview
Alliance College’s courses for school students are designed to provide a head start in the carpentry industry. These programs offer students the opportunity to learn specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification while completing their secondary school studies.
The Certificate II in Construction Pathways (CPC20220) is a practical, hands-on introduction to the construction industry. This qualification provides students with foundational skills and knowledge in building and construction work, preparing them for entry-level roles or further training through an apprenticeship.
Students will gain experience using tools and equipment, working with construction materials, and applying safe work practices in real or simulated workshop environments. Learning Outcomes
By completing the Certificate II in Construction Pathways (CPC20220), students will develop essential skills and knowledge required to work safely and effectively in the construction industry. Students will learn how to plan and organise work, complete basic measurements and calculations, and understand key workplace requirements, including environmental practices and industry standards.
Through hands-on training, students will gain experience applying workplace health and safety procedures, using construction tools and equipment, and handling a range of building materials. They will also participate in basic construction projects, developing practical skills relevant to real job site environments.
In addition, students will build foundational trade skills across carpentry and other construction areas such as plastering or tiling, while also gaining White Card certification to prepare them for safe work on construction sites. This qualification provides a strong pathway into trade apprenticeships and further study in the building and construction industry.
Career Pathways
This qualification can lead to a strong introduction to the building and construction industry and supports students in progressing into entry-level roles or further trade training. Upon completion, students may be able to work in supporting roles on construction sites while completing an apprenticeship or gaining on-the-job experience.

Entry Requirements
Eligibility for Subsidised Training:
- To be eligible for access to a subsidised training place in an approved course, a school student must meet the following criteria. They must be:
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen; OR
- A permanent Australian resident; OR
- An eligible visa holder (Check the Skills SA website for the full list of eligible visa subclasses).
- Reside in South Australia
Additional Criteria:
- Enrolled in Year 11, 12 or 13 and are 16 years of age or turning 16 years of age in the current year of that enrolment, and
- Are undertaking SACE or equivalent and,
- Have completed a preparatory VET pathway
- Upfront Assessment of Need (UAN) – checks eligibility and readiness
