Why Study Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)?
This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.
Learning Outcomes
This course gives you the practical skills to start your career in Australia’s building industry. You’ll learn how to read building plans, understand construction codes, estimate project costs, and manage safety on-site.
You’ll also develop leadership skills to supervise small teams, organise materials and schedules, and communicate with clients and contractors. These skills will help you prepare for roles such as site supervisor or licensed builder in Australia.

Upon completion, you may be eligible for roles such as Builder, Construction Supervisor, Site Manager, Site Supervisor or Leading Hand, among others. Employment outcomes may vary depending on your experience, chosen electives, and local licensing requirements.

Students may progress to CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and/or CPC60220 Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management)
Entry Requirements
Academic Entry Requirement:
- Be, at least, 18 years of age and satisfactory completion of Year 10 (or equivalent) schooling or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 3.
- Participate in a suitability interview for your chosen qualification.
RPL and Credit Transfer:
- Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer can be requested for this qualification.
- IELTS 6.0 or above, or equivalent.
