Why Study Dual Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design?
This packaged pathway is designed for students who want to build foundational civil design and drafting skills into more advanced civil construction design, project management, WHS, risk, quality, and leadership skills.
Students complete scheduled training, assessment, self-directed study, and Industry Exposure Days to connect classroom learning with civil construction design practice.
This course suits students seeking practical civil design, drafting, technical support, and paraprofessional pathways in the civil construction and infrastructure sector.
Learning Outcomes
Stage 1 – Diploma of Civil Construnction Design
Develop foundational civil construction design knowledge and technical drafting capability.
Produce and interpret basic civil design drawings, models, and technical documentation.
Apply mathematics, data, and engineering principles to civil construction design problems.
Upon completion of all Diploma requirements, students may exit with the RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design.
Stage 2 – Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design
Build on Diploma-level skills to manage more complex civil works design processes.
Apply technical judgement, coordination, and problem-solving to advanced civil design contexts.
Complete an integrated civil works design process through RIICWD601E Manage Civil Works Design Processes.
Demonstrate professional practice awareness and industry readiness.
The program supports alignment with Engineers Australia Engineering Associate expectations, subject to accreditation approval.

Industry Exposure Days
Industry Exposure Days are structured professional practice activities designed to help students connect classroom learning with civil construction design practice. Activities may include industry excursions, guest speakers, practical training days, engineering reflection reports, additional unit activities, site-based learning, simulated workplace activities and capstone-related professional practice tasks.
Students in the packaged accredited pathway (ADL) must complete evidence of at least 30 approved Industry Exposure Days across the program. Attendance, punctuality, PPE compliance, and professional behaviour are required, as students represent Alliance College during industry activities.
Entry Requirements
Academic Entry Requirement:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have satisfactory completion of Year 12 or AQF Level 5 or equivalent
- Meet the English language entry requirement of IELTS 6.0 overall or approved equivalent
- Complete the Alliance College LLND assessment or approved equivalent
- Participate in a suitability interview
- A mathematics background is recommended because the course includes technical mathematics, engineering mechanics, CAD/BIM and design calculations
Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer:
- RPL and CT may be requested. Approval is not automatic and each application is assessed against Alliance College policy, course requirements and available evidence.
- Students seeking the Engineers Australia accreditation pathway must follow the approved packaged program structure submitted to Engineers Australia, unless an approved Credit Transfer decision applies.
- CT/RPL is capped at 50% of the packaged pathway. CT will not be granted for RIICWD601E Manage Civil Works Design Processes, as this unit functions as the capstone unit and must be completed and assessed through Alliance College as part of the packaged pathway

- International students must meet the English language entry requirement of IELTS 6.0 overall or approved equivalent.
- Successful completion, within the last two years of a senior secondary or tertiary level course, undertaken in Australia in English while the student held a student visa.
- Successful completion, within the last two years of a CRICOS registered course at AQF Level 4 or above delivered in Australia in English while the student held a student visa.

- Laptop Mouse with a clickable scroll wheel (optional extra two thumb programable buttons)
- Mac computers and iPads are not suitable for this course because CAD/BIM software may not operate correctly.
PPE and White Card
- Steel-cap safety boots
- Long sleeve tops and long pants for Industry Exposure Days
- Where required wear hard hat and hi-vis vest (loaned)
- Valid White Card for relevant practical and industry exposure activities
Included Resources:
- White Card training is included where required if the student does not already hold it. Students who miss their scheduled White Card session must reschedule and may be required to pay applicable resit or rescheduling fees
- Alliance College provides access to Microsoft Office and Autodesk software.
