Why Study General English (ELICOS) at Alliance?
The primary goal of the General English program is to prepare students to communicate successfully in English outside the classroom. This program is designed to develop autonomous learning through student-centred activities with a focus on task-based learning and communicative competence. By the end of the course, students will be able to use their English more confidently and with greater fluency.

Entry Requirements
Student Entry Requirement:
- Students must be at least 16 years of age at the time of course commencement.
- Students must secure an appropriate visa that allows them to study an ELICOS course in Australia prior to course commencement.
- There are no education level entry requirements for any level of the ELICOS course.
English Entry Requirement:
- Beginner Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- a Beginner level on a pre-entry test.
- Elementary Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- an Elementary level on a pre-entry test OR
- Pre-Intermediate Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- a Pre-Intermediate level on a pre-entry test OR
- a passing grade in the Elementary General English level OR
- IELTS 4.5 OR
- PTE Academic 29 OR
- Duolingo 65
- Intermediate Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- IELTS 5.0 OR
- PTE Academic 36 OR
- Duolingo 80 OR
- an Intermediate level on a pre-entry test OR
- a passing grade in the Pre-Intermediate General English level.
- Upper-Intermediate Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- IELTS 5.5 OR
- PTE Academic 42 OR
- Duolingo 95 OR
- an Upper-Intermediate level on the pre-entry test OR
- a passing grade in the General English Intermediate level
- Advanced Level:
- In order to qualify for this level, prospective students must achieve:
- IELTS 6.0 OR
- PTE Academic 50 OR
- Duolingo 105 OR
- an Advanced level on the pre-entry test OR
- a passing grade in the General English Upper-Intermediate level
Course Requirements
General Requirements:
- Personal computer capable of being connected to the internet using a Wi-Fi connection
- Personal email address
- Mobile phone
- Microsoft Office suite of programs
- Microphone and camera compatible or inclusive within personal computer
- home access to the internet, with good speed to be able to do conference video calls
- Zoom software installed
